PREPARATIONS BASED ON PHOSPHINE
PREPARATIONS BASED ON PHOSPHINE (PBOP)

Phostoxin

Magtoxin
Preparations of aluminum phosphide are applied for fumigation – “Phostoxin”, “Phostek”, “Quickphos” and magnesium phosphide – “Magtoxin”. Effective agent in all of the preparations is — phosphine. Phosphine has following chemical formula — ÐÍ3, molecular weight — 34,00, specific weight of gas is 1,19.
It is of self-ignition nature at contact with liquid-drop humidity. The lowest threshold of self-ignition is 26-28 mg/l.
The smell of phosphine in gaseous form is close to the smell of carbide, and can be smelled at its concentration of 0,03 mg/l. Phosphine has no negative influence on steel, galvanized tin and tinned steel sheet, wood, silk and cotton fabrics, sackcloth and tarpaulin. It causes strong oxidation of coppery items. In this connection it is very difficult to perform the disinfection of the enterprises equipped with modern machinery by means of preparations based on phosphine — computers, technological equipment, because of possibility of copper contacts oxidation and contacts made of precious metals.
Preparations based on phosphine can be applied for treatment of dry-cargo production, including the seed grain. It is not allowed treating any vegetal plants, sowing materials, fruit and vegetables. Preparations based on phosphine can be applied for treatment of production in the vessel holds during the voyage. It is allowed performing by all international norms. Also the fumigation of grain in grain carriers is allowed on their way.
Phosphine is binding on a chemical level with the disinfecting production and in this connection can be degassed easily.

“Phostoxin” tablets contain 56-57% of aluminum phosphide (active component) and 43-44% of inert components that allow controlling the gassing of phosphine (phosphorohydrogen). The preparation evolves phosphine (ÐÍ3) in 30-60 minutes following the contact with atmospheric air. Dynamics of granules’ decomposition process depends on humidity and air temperature. Phosphine has an effect on all pests of agricultural production not depending on the stage of their development, and also on rodents. Gas has a very high penetrating property; it penetrates through all kinds of packing materials, and also into the hermetically packed goods. Due to the complete decomposition of the preparation, the residual dust almost does not contain any metallic phosphides.
“Magtoxin” contains 66% of magnesium phosphide (active component) and 34% of inert components. “Magtoxin” is decomposing faster that the products that contain aluminum phosphide. AT humidity of 60% and temperature of 20°Ñ 75% of phosphine is evolved in 24 hours already. The maximal phosphine concentration (phosphorohydrogen) is gained in 24-36 hours already.
“Phostoxin” and “Magtoxin” can be applied in the premises of a warehouse of any kind, where the sealing is possible. They are applied for treatment of silos, goods depots, containers, vessel holds, etc. Preparation may be introduced manually as well as by means of a probe.
“Phostoxin” and “Magtoxin” are produced in the form of tablets with the safety purpose of workers that are applying it. Principle of active substance evolving delay and also application simplicity guarantee a high safety level provided that the corresponding instructions are observed.
One should have in view that phosphine reacts with copper, copper alloys, silver and gold. These metals require additional protection during the fumigation.
